Herceg Novi is located at the entrance to one of the most beautiful bays in the world, the Gulf of Kotor (Boka Kotorska) and at the foot of Mount Orjen.

It is the youngest town on the Montenegrin coast, and is more than six centuries old (1382).  County of Herceg Novi extends between the Debeli Brijeg, border crossing with Croatia, and Verige, the narrowest passage in the Gulf of Kotor.

A town of sunshine, flowers, painters and poets.  It is recognizable by the mass of mimosa trees and many stairways.  Towards the end of January the town becomes scented with the subtle fragrance of yellow and green mimosas and the festival of Praznik Mimosa is dedicated to this flower.  Other colourful festivals are organised during the tourist season in this beautiful town.

The heart of the old town is charming, with squares, churches and galleries.  This town gets very busy during the summer season, and can get quite crowded.  It is best explored on foot, and there is a mini tram which runs the length of the sea front during the summer season.  There are many café bars, restaurants and pizzerias to be tried and tasted.

The seven kilometers long Pet Danica promenade connects Herceg Novi with Igalo, a Mediterranean centre of health tourism.  As well as many hotels, Igalo has a spa and centre for thalassotherapy which is open all year round. Any number of treatments are available for a day trip or longer, and prices are very reasonable.
